Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the alkaloids and the potential use of Pulai (Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br.) leaves from Lombok Island. The compounds were extracted via acid-base extraction with acetic acid 5% and the chemical composition was determined by using GC-MS with three settings of column temperature (150-270, 100-290 and 100-310°C). The result indicated the presence of alkaloids, namely Akuammidine, Voacristine, Strictamine and Nicotine, with Akuammidine as the major compound of the base fraction of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. leaves. The biosynthesis and biological activities of the alkaloids are discussed in this article to study the natural existence of the metabolites and potential uses of the leaves.
