Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the types of identity which are reflected through the language used in classroom context in which the spoken language will be analyzed in order to find out the words or phrases or sentences that represent certain identity as well as the frequency of occurrence of each identity. The model for identity categorization on this research is based on the work of Vignoles et al., (2011) in which the identity is categorized into personal, relational, collective, and material identity. Moreover, in analyzing the language that is used to state identity, this research used the work of Bloome, et al., (2005) in which they have found that in order to imply their identities, the students used a variety of linguistic means such as conjunction structures, authoritative figures, specific lexical items including names, complementary pairs, places, and highly evaluated items. This research used descriptive-qualitative design.
