Abstract

Indonesia has a high biodiversitywith the potential to further advance. Natural Product Chemistry (NPC). NPC studied the type, distribution, and function of secondary metabolites contained in organisms. NPC learning in Indonesia generally has not been supported by laboratory activities. Laboratory activities are very suitable with NPC learning as part of science which essentially consists of processes and products. In this laboratory the student isolated artelastin from Artocarpus scortechinii. Natural product chemistry laboratory provided the students with the essential skills required to perform the extraction, fractionation, purification, and structural elucidation of artelastin. Many of the activities in this laboratory may be appropriate for other courses, such as organic chemistry and chemotaxonomy. This laboratory is useful for undergraduate students from many different disciplines.
