Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of letter card media on the early reading ability of children aged 5-6 years in the RW Derma Bakti Rempung Village. This study uses a quantitative research design with a Quasi-experimental design using the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subjects of this study were 6 children aged 5-6 years. The data collection used is observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used the normality test using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, the homogeneity test using the One Way Anova test, then hypothesis testing using the Paired Sample t-test with the help of SPSS Version 16. The results of the study showed that the early reading ability of children aged 5-6 years in the RW environment Derma Bakti Desa Rempung before the treatment was said to be underdeveloped, seen from the total score on the pre-test of 197 and posttest with an overall score of 307 which was then analyzed using the normality test, homogeneity test and t-test with the pretest normality test results of 0, 191 and a value posttest is 0, 200, both of which areg 0.05, which means that the two data are normally distributed. Furthermore, the homogeneity test was carried out using One Way Anova, the results were 0, 107g 0.05, so the data had a homogeneous variant. After the data is declared normal and homogeneous, it can be continued using hypothesis testing using the Paired Sample t-test on the pretest and posttest values with the Sig. 2 tailed is 0.000 l0.05 which causes Ha to be accepted and H0 is rejected, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of using letter card media on the early reading ability of children aged 5-6 years in the RW Derma Bakti Rempung Village.
