Abstract

Initial research on the potential of geothermal energy was carried out in the Sembalun area of Timba Gading Village, Sembalun Lawang District, East Lombok by applying the geomagnetic method. The research aims to determine distribution of magnetic fields and magnetic anomalies, as well as distribution patterns of potential geothermal energy in the study area based on geomagnetic data. Geomagnetic data were collected in the study area by using the Proton Precession Magnetometer (PPM) GSM-19T and GSM-90, while the Global Positioning System (GPS) Garmin GPSmap 76C was used to determine the coordinate locating. The total magnetic field intensities over the studied area are in the range of 44,500 to 44,800 nT. The total magnetic intensity data measured in the study area then have been processed by performing diurnal and the 12 th IGRF corrections. The results of magnetic field data processing obtained by magnetic field anomalies scattered in the study area in the form of magnetic anomalies with values in the range of -180 to 70 nT, dominated with negative magnetic anomalies. These negative magnetic anomalies due to the decrease in the magnetic properties of rocks are hypothetically to be caused by the influence of heat on the hydrothermal alteration of geothermal system.
