Abstract

Based on UNESCO data, in one year ten languages in the world become extinct. The rate of extinction is expected to be even faster in the 21st century. The conditions as described by one of the UN organizations can occur in regional languages in Indonesia, including three regional languages in NTB, if no conservation is carried out. One of the most effective ways to preserve local languages is certainly through teaching local languages. However, the implementation of local language teaching is not as easy as building classrooms in schools. Including regional language teaching in the education curriculum cannot be achieved without the support of regulations from the local government where the local language is used. Also, the implementation of regional language teaching, especially the three regional languages in NTB, will be able to run well if it is preceded by the development of regional language policies, namely the standardization and design of teaching the NTB regional languages.
