Abstract

Artefacts are common finding in the electrocardiogram (ECG) of patients in hospital setting. It can mimic a number of arrhythmias causing patients to be subjected to unnecessary and potentially dangerous therapeutic interventions. ECG's artefacts can be generated by internal and external cause from muscle tremors to dry electrode gel. A thorough knowledge of, patient's history, hemodynamic profile, and appropriate investigation of surrounding equipment/monitors enables swift determination of the cause and appropriate action for resolving the problem.
