Abstract
Background: The association between fruit and vegetables (FVs) intake and hypertension risk remains controversial. Many studies have indicated that consumption of vegetables and fruits are positively associated with blood pressure. Objective: To evaluate the impact of intake fruits and or vegetables and the risk of developing hypertension. Methods: Prospective cohort studies were performed through PubMed. There were three studies included with total 146,647 participants were included. Result: There was statistically significant between fruits intake and risk of hypertension (RR 0.87, 95% CI 0.83 to 0.91, p=0.00001), vegetables intake and risk of hypertension (RR 1.08, 95% CI 0.99 to 1.18, p=0.08). Conclusion: There were statistically significant between fruits and vegetables intake and risk of hypertension. These findings support recommendation to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables to prevent the risk of developing hypertension.
