Abstract
The goal of this study is to determine the effect of learning models, STAD and explicit teaching, on the students' statistic learning outcomes. The study was conducted in the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at the University of Muhammadiyah Mataram. This study is quantitative in nature, employing a quasi-experiment method and a 2 × 2 factorial by level design. The research sample consisted of all students enrolled in a statistics course, and 54 students were chosen at random as the samples. The following methods were used to collect data: 1) questionnaires, 2) multiple-choice tests to find out students' mathematical-logic intelligence, and 3) essay to test students statistics learning outcomes. After controlling mathematicallogical intelligence, the findings are as follows: 1) STAD was more effective than explicit teaching; 2) learning models used and interest affected the learning result; 3) for the low-interest category group, STAD was more effective than explicit teaching; and 4) there was insufficient evidence to support the statement that for the high-interest category group, explicit teaching model was more effective than STAD model.
