Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of Pekin ducks thirty weeks old reared by the Monggelemong duck farmer group in Mataram, Indonesia. The farm was chosen based on the availability of ducks laying eggs using purposive sampling, and sample ducks were selected randomly. The data collected included body weight and measurements of various body parts such as head circumference, neck length, wing length, back length, chest circumference, chest width, upper thigh length, lower thigh length, metatarsus length, metatarsus circumference, beak length, and beak circumference. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively, while body size data were analyzed using Multiple Regression. The study found that the Pekin ducks reared by the Monggelemong duck breeder group had white plumage, orange beaks, and shank. The body weight and size of the ducks were relatively smaller compared to previous studies. Measures of chest width, back length, head circumference, and wing length correlated with body weight, with the highest determination (R2) in chest width (86%). In selecting the morphometry and body shape of Pekin ducks, the use of the size of the chest is recommended.
