Abstract

This study aims to determine the availability and quality of nutrients from various organic waste media that have the potential as growing media of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot. This research consisted of 2 stages, namely the first stage which included an inventory of the availability of household organic waste, markets, and chicken farms in Mataram City, and the second stage was an analysis of the nutritional content of organic waste. The variables observed were the level of availability of organic waste per day and the nutritional quality analysis of various organic wastes that included moisture, ash, crude protein, crude fat, and crude fiber content. The results show that based on the level of availability of organic waste per day, the waste production of Mataram City which was sourced from household, market, and chicken farm amounted to 181.976 kg per day, where the proportion of household waste was 85,23%, chicken farm waste was 10,59%, and market waste was 4,18%. The nutritional content of each organic waste with high crude protein content was household waste by 13,10%, market waste by 15,95%, and the highest in laying hens farm waste by 18,64%. However, the moisture content of household and market organic waste were high accounted for 82,07% and 88,30%, where the ideal water content for maggot growth is 70-80%. It can be conluded that organic waste has the potential to be used as a growing medium for BSF maggot based on the high availability of organic waste per day and the nutritional content needed for the growth and development of the maggot.
