Abstract

This research aims to determine the production and egg quality of laying hens kept by livestock farmers, which provides self-formulated layer feed supplements (SPL). This research used ten breeders as replications; each livestock farmer applied two treatments: some of the chickens were used to apply SPL (T1), and the other part was given supplement feed usually given by livestock farmers (T2) The results of the study showed that egg production, egg weight, feed consumption, and feed conversion of laying hens given self-formulated layer feed supplements (SPL) were not significantly different (p>0.05) compared to those given feed supplements commonly used by livestock farmers ( T2). Likewise, egg quality showed no significant difference between the two treatment groups. However, the egg yolk color and cholesterol levels of laying hens given feed containing 1.2% self-formulated layer feed supplements (SPL) were better (p<0.05) than the supplement feed usually given by livestock farmers (T2). It can be concluded that the use of 1.2% homemade feed supplements (SPL) in feed can be applied to layer farms.
