THE USE OF PRINTED AND DIGITAL READING MATERIALS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING AT MTS NURUL HARAMAIN: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find the students’ perceptions on Printed and Digital reading materials at MTs Nurul Haramain and to find which type of reading materials is more preferred. This research used mixed methods. The sample in this research was students from class A from the 8th Grade of Junior High School at Nurul Haramain, consisting of 30 students. The research instruments were questionnaire and interview. The results showed that students generally had a neutral stance toward both printed and digital reading materials. While printed materials were recognized for ease of reading and aiding focus, about half of the students were neutral, with some leaning toward their benefits for assignments. Digital materials were appreciated for their practicality, but many students were indifferent or hesitant, particularly for academic use. Overall, more students preferred printed materials, recognizing their advantages over digital formats despite mixed feelings about both types. ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap bahan bacaan cetak dan digital di MTs Nurul Haramain serta untuk mengetahui jenis bahan bacaan yang lebih disukai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas A dari kelas 8 MTs Nurul Haramain, yang terdiri dari 30 siswa. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuesioner dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa umumnya memiliki sikap netral terhadap bahan bacaan cetak maupun digital. Bahan bacaan cetak diakui memudahkan dalam membaca dan membantu fokus, namun sekitar setengah dari siswa bersikap netral, dengan beberapa di antaranya cenderung melihat manfaatnya dalam tugas. Bahan bacaan digital diapresiasi karena praktis, tetapi banyak siswa yang bersikap acuh tak acuh atau ragu, terutama dalam penggunaan akademik. Secara keseluruhan, lebih banyak siswa yang memilih bahan bacaan cetak karena mengakui kelebihannya dibandingkan format digital, meskipun terdapat perasaan campur aduk terhadap kedua jenis tersebut.
