Abstract

Abstract Nipah Beach is famous as a turtle nesting site because of the characteristics of its natural habitat. The site is located in North Lombok Regency, Indonesia, a region known for its attraction to marine tourism, contributing to its rapid economic development. However, a lack of community awareness among the local people and visitors regarding the existence of such an ecosystem poses significant threats to the sea turtle nesting habitats, which may lead to the shrinking of the turtle population. The conservation challenges concerning community awareness have been encountered through various programs and activities to ensure the sustainability of such protected species. Along with these conservation initiatives, strengthening the basis for measuring the level of knowledge, behavior, and practices among the visitors coming to the site is not accompanied by this. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the visitors’ knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) regarding sea turtle conservation on Nipah Beach. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to assess KAP levels among visitors and the socio-economic impact on local communities. The result of this study finds that attitudes and practices are generally highly related to turtle conservation; meanwhile, a moderate level of knowledge is shown in the research findings. Furthermore, key demographic factors, including education and occupation, significantly influence KAP scores. The study recommends enhanced public awareness, improved educational interventions, and stronger enforcement of conservation regulations to foster a sustainable balance between economic activities and turtle habitat preservation.
