Abstract
The integration of Islamic intellectual heritage (thurats) into Brunei Darussalam's curriculum has become a key strategy in strengthening Islamic education and identity. This study investigates the processes and impacts of incorporating thurat into the curriculum, highlighting its role in fostering a comprehensive understanding of Islamic values and history. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and curriculum document analysis. Thematic analysis was applied to identify key themes in the integration process. The findings reveal that thurats significantly enrich the curriculum by deepening students' Islamic identity and fostering critical engagement with Islamic intellectual traditions. This integration supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 by enhancing the quality of education through the preservation and modernisation of cultural heritage and SDG 16 by promoting inclusive, peaceful, and ethically grounded educational practices. The study concludes that embedding thurats into the curriculum is crucial for maintaining the relevance of Islamic education in addressing contemporary challenges. Strengthening these efforts is essential to ensure a resilient and culturally rooted Islamic education system in Brunei Darussalam.
