Abstract
This article describes the phenomenon of social cohesion in the Perang Topat procession at Kemaliq Lingsar, Lombok, as well as the development of character education values in this tradition. This ex post facto study applies a descriptive qualitative approach, using observation, documentation, and interviews for data collection. Perspectives from Talcott Parsons’ structural-functional model, Thomas Lickona's theory of character education, and the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture's model are employed. The results highlight three main findings. First, the Perang Topat was carried out in Kemaliq Lingsar-West Lombok by Sasak Muslims on the Sasak calendar during Kembangwaru rarak, in three stages: (1) preparation, (2) preliminary ceremony, and (3) the peak of the Perang Topat ceremony. This commemoration honours the Islamic spreader, Kiyai Haji Abdul Malik. Second, the values of character education embedded in the tradition include (1) religious, (2) tolerance, (3) social concern, and (4) nationalism.
