Abstract
Regarding the government’s ambitious plan to realize the National Capital City (IKN), concerns are emerging from various groups, including environmental activists, academics, and local communities. This is closely related to the development of IKN, which is located in Kalimantan, one of Indonesia's largest forested regions and a crucial tropical rainforest area, at least 45% of which serves as the "lungs of the world." The environmental impacts arising from the IKN project also have the potential to affect local communities, including indigenous peoples who rely on the forest for their livelihoods. The study of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in developing the National Capital City (IKN) project in Indonesia is essential to ensure environmental sustainability in the area. Environmental Protection and Management, through normative methods, will ensure that this research complies with applicable legal provisions. IKN Development aims to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly city; however, the complex and large-scale environmental challenges demand special attention to ecological impacts. Through EIA, various potential environmental impacts, such as spatial changes, pollution, and ecosystem degradation, can be identified, measured, and controlled. EIA serves as an instrument to prevent and manage negative impacts through a systematic approach to environmental planning and management. This process also encourages community participation and transparency, ensuring that the IKN development project supports economic growth and aligns with sustainability principles and ecosystem welfare. Through EIA, the IKN project is expected to become a model of harmonious development between humans and nature, prioritizing green development principles.
