Abstract

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a series of emergency measures aimed at stimulating, re-storing, and maintaining cardiac and pulmonary function in victims of cardiac and res-piratory arrest. BLS includes the recognition and management of cardiopulmonary re-suscitation (CPR), maintaining airway patency, and ensuring adequate ventilation and oxygenation. Early and appropriate initiation of BLS has been shown to increase resus-citation success rates while reducing mortality and disability. With the increasing inci-dence of cardiac arrest cases in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), preventive measures in the form of BLS training are urgently needed to improve the skills and preparedness of healthcare professionals. The BLS training was conducted on January 11, 2025, at Pagesangan Primary Health Center, Mataram, targeting healthcare professionals from the facility. The training ap-proach included lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, followed by knowledge evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments. A total of 38 healthcare professionals participated in the training, consisting mainly of nurses (42%) and midwives (36%). The mean pre-test score was 70, which improved to 90 in the post-test. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test confirmed a significant dif-ference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05), indicating a meaningful in-crease in participants’ knowledge following the training. BLS training that integrates lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice proved effective in significantly improving the knowledge and skills of healthcare profession-als at Pagesangan Primary Health Center.
