Abstract
Maternal depression has a detrimental impact on both mother and child, worsening the mother's physical health by increasing risks of sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, and obstetric complications like premature birth and low birth weight. It can also lead to delays in the child's cognitive, emotional, and social development. Despite high birth rates in West Lombok (19.23 per 1000 population) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province overall (total fertility rate of 2.43, exceeding the national average), specific data on maternal depression cases in this region remains unavailable. To address this, a health education workshop titled “Srikandi Bumi Emas: Take the Time to Recognize Depression in Pregnant and Postpartum Women” was held at the Narmada Community Health Center, West Lombok, on August 31, 2024. Participants included 42 out of 48 invited pregnant and postpartum women. The workshop consisted of a pretest, educational video screening, material presentation by an expert, a Q&A session, and a posttest. Participant enthusiasm was high, evidenced by consistent attendance and interactive engagement. The workshop's success was demonstrated by a significant increase in the average posttest scores compared to the pretest scores, indicating improved participant knowledge about maternal depression. These positive outcomes can serve as a basis for developing policy recommendations at both regional and national levels aimed at enhancing understanding and awareness of maternal depression.
