Abstract

This study aims to examine the transitivity system of the text in the Lontar Ajar Pati manuscript in preserving the local wisdom of the Sasak tribe of Lombok. Ajar Pati of the Sasak Tribe of Lombok represents an investigation into cultural heritage texts and local wisdom, the existence of which is gradually diminishing due to the progress of time. This research has several urgent aspects: 1) Preservation of the Sasak Lombok lontar manuscript as a Cultural Heritage and Local Wisdom. This study is crucial as it highlights efforts to preserve cultural heritage and local wisdom, particularly the existence of lontar manuscripts that are threatened by modernization and globalization. 2) Updating the study of lontar texts from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), to facilitate understanding and application of values in social life. 3) Policy Development, the findings of this research can serve as a basis for developing policies that support the preservation and protection of cultural heritage and local wisdom, particularly the existence of the Ajar Pati lontar manuscript of the Sasak Tribe of Lombok. 4) Knowledge and Education, this research aims to enhance comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Sasak tribal literacy and encourage the integration of such studies into formal and informal educational curricula in the region. The objective of this research is to understand how the transitivity system of the text in the lontar manuscript can represent the cultural heritage and local wisdom of the Sasak tribe based on the exposition of process systems, participants, and circumstances in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). The research method employs a qualitative descriptive approach based on linguistic phenomena in the field. Data collection was conducted through: a) Transcription–Translation and b) Documentation. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively using Text Transitivity techniques. The results show that the Ajar Pati text of the Sasak tribe has a complex structure with a dominance of material processes, accounting for 50% of the total 512 clauses, reflecting a focus on concrete actions and social interactions within the community. Mental and Verbal processes, although not dominant, still provide important dimensions in understanding internal experiences and interpersonal communication. The use of Circumstances of Manner and Cause emphasizes the importance of context and reasons behind each teaching, strengthening the meaning of actions and the moral values conveyed. Overall, this text serves as a guide that not only conveys information but also shapes expected spiritual and social behaviors within Sasak society.
