Abstract

Gold smith artisans are part of the Small and Medium Industry (IKM) that plays a strategic role in the national economy, but still faces various challenges in improving welfare. Industrial clustering is seen as an approach to improve the competitiveness and business performance of craftsmen. The Sekarbela gold craftsmen cluster in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, is one of the important centers of gold and pearl crafts, but empirical studies on the effect of clustering on the welfare of craftsmen are still limited. This study aims to analyze the impact of Inter-artisan collaboration, access to resources, external support, and cluster infrastructure on the welfare of artisans, as well as to examine the mediating role of business performance. The study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Square (SEM–PLS) method through SmartPLS software. The results show that access to resources has a positive and significant effect on business performance and the welfare of artisans, while inter-artisan collaboration, external support, and cluster infrastructure do not have a significant effect. Furthermore, business performance does not mediate the relationship between clusterization elements and artisan welfare. This study concludes that optimizing access to resources is a key factor in improving the business performance and welfare of gold artisans.
