Abstract

Efforts to Empower the Skills of Wives from Fishing Households in Kolo Urban Village, Asakota District, Bima City Abstract This study is motivated by the low participation and skills of fishermen's wives in family economic activities in Kolo Village, Asakota District, Bima City. This condition causes economic dependence on their husbands and limits women's contributions to improving household welfare. This study is important because in the area, there have been few empowerment programs focusing on enhancing the productive skills of coastal women. Therefore, this study aims to examine in depth the efforts to empower the skills of fishermen's wives in Kolo Village as a strategy to improve family economic capacity. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving seven fishermen's wives and three key informants from the village government and community leaders. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The study results indicate that skills empowerment has a significant impact on three main aspects: (1) improvement of technical skills through marine product processing training based on local potential; (2) increase in family income and diversification of income sources; and (3) strengthening the social role of women in business groups and the community. Theoretically, these findings reinforce the concept of women's empowerment from a development sociology perspective, while practically providing a basis for local governments to design sustainable training and mentoring programs for women fishermen.
