Abstract

Ampenan Old Town is one of the historical areas in Mataram City that holds significant importance as a colonial cultural heritage. The existence of heritage buildings in this area not only represents the historical development of the city but also serves as an identity for the local community. However, many of the physical conditions of the heritage buildings in this area have declined in quality due to a lack of maintenance and the pressures of modern urban space needs. Therefore, a conservation approach is needed that not only focuses on physical preservation but also considers adaptive functions so that the heritage buildings remain relevant and can be used sustainably. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, through literature study. The results indicate that the adaptive conservation approach can be an effective solution for preserving the historical and architectural values of heritage buildings, while also accommodating new functions that align with modern developments. By applying adaptive conservation strategies, it is hoped that the Ampenan Old Town area can continue to thrive as a dynamic cultural space, without losing its historical essence.
