Pavement Damage Assessment on Quarry Haul Roads Using the PCI Method: A Case Study of Rimba Agung Road, Central Lombok Regency

Abstract

Abstract Road infrastructure supports economic growth and community welfare. Poor road performance often results from heavy traffic loads, insufficient maintenance, and environmental factors. Construction material trucks significantly contribute to pavement damage, accelerating overall road deterioration. This study aims to assess pavement condition and determine suitable maintenance actions using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method on Rimba Agung Road, Pemepek. The study covered a 5.6 km segment divided into 56 units, each 100 meters long. The PCI assessment followed the ASTM D6433-07 standard by identifying damage types, rating their severity, calculating densities, and determining deduct values. The results showed 14 of 19 pavement damage types were identified, with polished aggregate being the most common (57.50%). The average PCI value of 43.57 indicated fair pavement condition. The condition distribution showed 35.71% of road sections were in good condition, 10.71% fair, 16.07% poor, and 37.50% very poor or failed. Based on the mean PCI value, routine maintenance is recommended. This study provides a systematic basis for maintenance planning and budget prioritization to support sustainable road management.
