Abstract
ABSTRACT The transformation of the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) into a strategic tourism growth center has created a growing need for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices that can balance economic development, community welfare, and environmental sustainability. Although various CSR programs have been implemented in the surrounding buffer villages, their benefits have not always been fully understood or equitably experienced by local communities. This community service initiative was therefore designed to strengthen stakeholders’ understanding of CSR, sustainable development, and the Penta Helix collaboration model as a governance approach that supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program was conducted in Mertak Village, Central Lombok Regency, through socialization sessions, workshops, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving village government representatives, civil society organizations, youth groups, business actors, academics, media representatives, and affected community members. The discussions revealed that the main challenges in CSR implementation were not merely related to the availability of programs, but also to limited public literacy regarding CSR, restricted access to program information, unequal distribution of benefits, and the absence of governance mechanisms capable of ensuring transparency and accountability. Interactions among participants further demonstrated that the Penta Helix approach provides a more inclusive platform for coordination in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of CSR initiatives. The activity highlights that strengthening collaborative governance through the Penta Helix framework is a crucial prerequisite for developing CSR practices that are more participatory, responsive to community needs, and oriented toward sustainable regional development.
